Welcome to both Karissa Coleman and Jacob Terdik who have joined the lab as graduate students. They both won the 2026 Graduate Student Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Chemistry. Bhavna Maurya also did an awesome job presenting her work at the “The Pigments of Life : Tetrapyrroles in Metabolism, Regulation, Catalysis, and Medicine” conference in Rhode Island! The lab welcomes Arthur Tan who joins the lab as a undergraduate researcher.
The lab had a busy spring, Alex Drake got renewed for another year on the T32 training grant and one of lab’s wonderful undergraduate researchers, Isaiah Lyche graduated with departmental honors. Isaiah will be continuing his research career at the Portland VA Research foundation doing Toxoplasmosis drug research
Congrats to Alex Drake for passing his qualifying exam and officially becoming a PhD candidate!

Welcome to our first cohort! Bhavna, Bailey, Lauren and Romila have been busy setting up the lab, purifying proteins and learning B12 biochemistry.

We had an exciting first year setting up the lab and starting new B12 related projects. We are now headed into Year 2 filled with enthusiasm and excitement.
Welcome to Alex Drake, our first graduate student! Alex was selected for a T32 training grant. We also welcome Alex Goodrich (an early start rotation student) and Gabriella Hernandez from the UO SPUR program.
Congratulations to our first undergraduate student Lauren Grover for successfully defending her Clarks Honors Thesis on B12-dependent riboswitches, a collaboration with the Widom lab.
